Staff Spotlight

This week we highlight
Laura Henault!!!

This is Laura’s first year at Potomac School. Mrs. Henault has been working in schools since 2002 in New Hampshire, in various capacities. Most of her work has been with students with disabilities. She received her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a Master's degree in Special Education. She has two sons, one here in Potomac and one in Florida. She and her husband decided to leave New Hampshire behind to be closer to our Montana family which includes their son Ben, daughter-in-law Melody, and granddaughter Olive as well as Melody's parents Neil and Wendy. Their son, Cory, is in Florida and is a Third Mate in the Merchant Marines and is currently sailing on tugboats. Laura has a dog, Stella who absolutely loves being in Montana. Laura’s favorite things include spending time with her family and being near the water. Mrs. Henault is mostly a nonfiction reader as she loves to learn all of the time. When asked what makes Potomac special, Mrs. Henault said, “The staff is extremely dedicated and hard-working here at Potomac School. They have made me feel so welcomed. The students are amazing! What I love most are the unique opportunities that this small school gives their students. It is truly a school deeply rooted in its community.”

History of Potomac School

Carly Graf is a statewide education reporter with Lee Montana. Based in Missoula, Carly’s stories are published in the Missoulian, Billings Gazette, Helena Independent Record, Mountain Standard and Ravalli Republic. She’s hoping to do a story on Potomac School as one of the oldest still currently used in the state.

Please join us on Monday, April 29th from 4:30-6:00 pm in the Community Center for a conversation about the school’s role in the community, its history, and what it means to the people of Potomac. Carly also looks forward to hearing any fun anecdotes or nuggets about the building’s past, or memories community members have about or with it!

Blue Skies
The Potomac School Board approved placing a General Fund Levy increase on the May 7th ballot for Potomac School District voters' consideration. These questions were generated during the April 8th meeting of the Community Engagement Committee to help voters understand more about the proposed levy. The responses were prepared by the administration using publicly available information.

Potomac School 6th-8th grade students participated in the NHD (National History Days) State competition in Bozeman this past weekend. Students presented their projects, all based around the theme of "Turning Points in History", to judges. 14 students qualified to advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C. June 9th-13th! Congratulations to ALL participants; you have worked extremely hard on this year-long research project!!  Additionally, a HUGE shout-out to Mrs. Van for organizing this awesome learning experience for Potomac students!

SUPAMAN

Supaman visited Potomac School and provided a positive message about honoring one's culture, self, and others. He engaged the audience with his traditional dress, his dancing and musical talents, as well as inviting students and teachers to dance to our own created music. It was a highly energetic performance and workshop sponsored by 2 Valleys Stage.

Place Based Learning Academy

While the younger students were at the Butterfly House, older students went to the KPAX news station and were able to do the weather report and practice being a news anchor.

Missoula Electric Cooperative's Bright Future Fund program recently awarded a $1,500 grant to Potomac Elementary School and $1,500 grant to Potomac 7-8 School! 

We appreciate MEC's continued support of local schools and students!

PBLA 
is BACK!!!

(Place Based Learning Academy)

The Friday dates are as follows:​

  • April 26

  • May 10

    Potomac School’s PBLA program will be available five Fridays this spring starting in January. 

   Parents will be required to register their students two weeks in advance of the program dates by contacting the program coordinator, Sarah Duello at sduello@potomacschoolmontana.us

   Parents will need to pay $10 per day for each child attending. Payment will be expected at the time of registration.  Checks can be made payable to Potomac School District. The program will also be open to school-aged home school students who reside in the Potomac School District boundaries. Parents are responsible for providing lunches and snacks for each Friday.  The programs will start at 8:00 am and end at 4:00 pm each of the scheduled Fridays. Parents must pick up their students at 4:00 pm.
